An Entry for Every Day

Enough entries have been posted after midnight that this is almost an acceptable slip up. I might not be able to write on every date, but an entry has been dedicated to each day so that'll have to do. Yesterday was a nice day, but I completely crashed before I was able to update the journal. My apologies if you're a disappointed reader, but hey, here I am: you're not missing anything.

Yesterday began like any other Sunday morning, get ready for a late departure and arrive late at church. We got there about a half hour late, but nothing had even kicked off yet. That's kinda how we operate. No start times, just a few things we get done. It's lax and unstructured, but it gets the job done.

Small group gathered upstairs with Arturo, Ryan, Tristan, Wesley, and I and we talked about what happened on Saturday. About what we had heard, about how we had reacted, and about how we were feeling. The session as a whole enabled a few prayer warriors to join the legion.

The service was solid, especially the sermon. Darrell's really been on fire lately with his sermons: one titled Wanted Dead in Sin but Alive in Christ and the other, Liberating Bondage. Oxymoronic concepts of the life in death and the freedom in slavery seize attention, intrigue listeners, and prepare people to think. Yesterday's sermon covered how we are either bound to wickedness (which brings out the dark in us, which he exemplified with the case of Susan Smith http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/famous/smith/unthinkable_2.html) or to God, a master who truly does care for us and wants only the best for us. "Sin uses up and destroys," he said, "while God makes the best out of us." Worship was how it normally is, decent music but subpar worship, as the distinction can be made.

Afterwards, we went home and ate a few sandwiches from Main Street Subs. My mom and I had our own worship session where she played piano and I played guitar. And as we both sang from the worship books we have, it was nice. These will form fond memories.

Not too much longer later did my Dad arrive to take out Wesley and Cade. I chilled out for a few hours until the Garrells showed up for Blokus, hanging out, and to work on Kristie's scholarship application essay. That was all fun, so much so that I lost track of time and wasn't able to make it to Long Hill, and then I crashed with a belly full of pizza and The Fellowship of the Ring on the tv. I couldn't make it out of The Shire before sleep overcame me. I couldn't help it, and it wasn't until this morning that I realized I hadn't updated my journal.

There's not a lot I can say deeply about yesterday, as it's not yesterday now. So the best course of action is probably to leave this entry as a summary and make the most of today so that I can write a more interesting journal entry tonight. Full of homework and getting ready for school tomorrow, I can't wait.

Signing off 'til later,
- Stevie LaFerriere
